President's Message

The CFDD National Conference in Denver, Colorado, was well worth attending. It had speakers on timely topics that were of benefit to the different chapter presidents and other attendees.

The theme for the event was “Leaders Sharing Expertise.” On Friday, there was an open forum moderated by a former CFDD National President and NACM National Chairperson, Dawn Wallace Cook, CCE. Dawn has been very active in CFDD in the past and continues to support the national organization and her local chapter. The program was a response to questions submitted prior to the conference and answered by a panel of seasoned credit professionals.  Audience participation was encouraged and there were a significant number of ideas presented and questions answered. I heard several positive comments about the forum.

Some of the other topics presented were “Selling to a Company in Chapter 11,” a particularly timely topic for me, “Communication & Credit,” “Critical Thinking” and an “Economic Update.” The speaker for the “Economic Update” was Chris Kuehl, Ph.D.; one of the few economists who can hold your interest for one and a half hours with pertinent and useful information. He will be a speaker at the PNWCC in Portland in 2010.

The last speaker on Saturday morning was Hazel Walker.  She spoke on networking and how to use online networking to your advantage. She also spoke on face-to-face networking and its value to your company. It was a very informative session and answered concerns I had with using Facebook, twitter, and Linkedin. Linkedin is a new networking source of information that is work-related rather than social. There are strong parameters for using it successfully. I asked Hazel when people should use the online networking and she said most definitely it should be off the clock. Carol Fowle has emailed information regarding signing up on Linkedin that I will share with anyone interested.

I want to profusely thank CFDD Eugene/Springfield Chapter for supporting my attendance at the conference this year. I have returned with new enthusiasm and a supply of ideas to enhance our chapter.

        Respectfully submitted,
        Sandee Texley, CCE, President
